Tdap Booster Vaccine
Effective with the start of the 2008-09 school year, a Tdap booster vaccine is required for ALL students entering the 6th, 7th or 8th grade in a Virginia school. If such a vaccine has been received in the last five years (since September 2003) this booster is not required. Documentation of this vaccine may appear as DPT, T, Td Dtap, and /or Tdap. Please bring documentation in to your school nurse so it can be put in your student’s school record. Documentation is needed before a class schedule can be issued. There is No grace period or extension. (nkh 5/08)

Tryouts - More Info
- Students MUST have a physical on a VBMSL form to tryout for any sport.
- All forms should be on file with Mr. Murray in Student Activities.
- Fall tryouts include boys/girls soccer, and football. Debate begins the first week of school.
- Students should report to the Bayside MS gymnasium at 3:30pm on Monday.
- Tryouts will end at 6:00 pm.
- Students may be picked up or ride the activity bus home at 6:00pm. If parents are not at Bayside by 6:00pm the student will automatically be placed on an activity bus to go home.
- Tuesday-Friday students should report to their bus stop no later than 3:00 pm in order to get a ride to Bayside.
- Sports Physicals – Friday, August 22rd in the Bayside MS café
Girls—4:00 p.m., Boys—4:30 p.m.
- Cost is $6 – CASH ONLY
Forms are available at the main office, in Student Activities or online at http://www.vbschools.com/calendar/2008-2009/athletic/ms_form.pdf.
- VBMSL physical forms should be completely filled out prior to the physical.

6 Semester Rule (New Eligibility Rule) -
In order to represent your school in any interscholastic contest you must not have been enrolled in the last three years of middle school for a period of more than six consecutive semesters, beginning with the semester in which he/she was enrolled for the first time in the sixth grade. Please read the first page of the physical form for more individual eligibility rules or contact Mr. Murray in the Student Activities office.

Basic Supply List
6th Grade
Every 6th grader will need the following school supplies to successfully begin the school year. Please understand that this is only a “basic” list…additional materials (that are team specific) will be required. Team teachers will distribute a more detailed list to your child within the first week of school.
- Two (2-3 inch) 3-ring binders
- Divider tabs for binders
- Notebook paper for binders
- Highlighters
- Pencil pouch for writing utensils
- Pencils
- Pens (blue or black only)
- Colored pencils
- 1 composition notebook (not spiral notebook!)

7th Grade
- 1 large 3-ring binder with dividers (6th Grade Only)
- 4 3-ring 1 inch binders with dividers (7th Grade Only)
- #2 pencils
- Pens (Blue or Black)
- Colored pencils/markers
- Science safety googles ($4, cash only, may be purchased from Science teacher)
- Folder with pockets
- Standard rule loose leaf paper
- One box of tissues (optional)
- Ruler with metric and standard increments (7th Grade only)

2008 Yearbook
| YEARBOOK orders for the 2008-2009 SPIRIT
yearbook can be made during Orientation, Open House, or any school
day during the month of September. Yearbooks will be in limited supply
this year so make sure you order your student's yearbook early. |
Vital Information
- The
cost for P.E. uniforms is $7 per piece ($14 total) - cash only. Uniforms may also be purchased
during PE classes at the beginning of the school year.
- Tuesday, September 4th, is the first day of school.
- School hours are 9:10 am until 3:40 pm for students. Students
are considered late and must be signed in, by a parent, at
the front desk after 9:00 am.
- Office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:15 am until 4:15 pm.
- Bus schedules will appear in the Beacon section of the Virginian-Pilot
at the end of August or be referred to the "School Bus
Schedules" button on the Bayside Middle School web site.
- Prepare to join our PTA during Orientation or Open House
nights. Membership is only $4.00, cash only.
- Students will be receiving a student planner, free of charge,
during the first week of school. Students are required to
carry their planners at all times and the fee to replace a
lost planner is $6, cash only. The planner includes dress
code, school rules, school calendar, etc. Please review this
planner carefully with your student.
- Applications for free/reduced lunch will be sent home the
first week of school. Students must reapply each year to qualify
for free/reduced lunch.
