Completed in 1969 and opened in 1970, Bayside Middle School is one of fourteen middle schools in the city of Virginia Beach. Unlike many traditional single-unit structures, Bayside Middle consists of five distinct and separate units connected by breezeways.

The Bayside Borough is a highly active urbanized sector of the city. The Bayside area is bounded on the north by the Chesapeake Bay; on the east by the western branch of the Lynnhaven Inlet; on the south by Virginia Beach Boulevard; and on the west by the city of Norfolk.

Bayside Middle School currently has an enrollment of approximately 1000 sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade students. The curriculum includes a combination of traditional academic courses and a variety of interesting electives. Also, the students at Bayside Middle participate in numerous extracurricular activities, including intramural and interscholastic athletics.
